State of the Environment Reporting for the Australian Capital Region
The 2004 State of the Environment Report for the Australian Capital Region covers the period July 2000 to June 2004.
OverviewThe Australian Capital Region was created in the early 1990s by the elected leaders of the 17 NSW Local Government Areas and of the ACT, to jointly benefit from a regional approach to planning and development. The first regional State of the Environment Report was published in 1997, by the ACT Office of the Commissioner for the Environment, it is a joint effort of all the governments in the Region. Subsequently reports were published for 1997–2000 and for 2000–04. These reports represent the goodwill and cooperation that has developed in this Region. The reports meet the requirements of the NSW Local Government Act 1993 , and of the ACT Commissioner for the Environment Act 1993 . Council reports
The composition of the Australian Capital Region changed during the 2000–04 reporting period. Three Local Government Areas—Cootamundra, Gundagai and Tumbarumba—joined the region. Also, some existing Local Government Areas were amalgamated to form the 'new' Local Government Areas as follows:
