Cooma-Monaro Shire

  • 2004 State of the Environment Report (External Link)
  • 1997 and 2000 State of the Environment reports are available on CD

Set apart by its natural treeless grassy plains and rugged forested hills, Cooma-Monaro Shire boasts a rich pastoral and cultural heritage and a key role in regional transport, service, and tourism.

Cooma-Monaro Shire covers an area of approximately 540,000 hectares on the Southern Tablelands region of southern NSW and shares the Monaro Grasslands with Bombala and Snowy River Shires.

The vibrant town of Cooma acts as a gateway not only to the Snowy Mountains but to Canberra, the NSW south coast, and the Gippsland Region of Victoria and is a key service centre for Cooma-Monaro and the surrounding shires.

As of June 2004, some 9773 people lived in Cooma-Monaro Shire. Read more >
