  • 2004 State of the Environment Report (External Link)
  • the 1997 and 2000 State of the Environment Reports for Queanbeyan City Council Area is available on CD

Queanbeyan City covers an area of 17,288 hectares of grassland, bush and rapidly developing urban space. With its close proximity to Canberra and convenience to the snowy mountains, Queanbeyan is the fastest growing city in Southern NSW. In line with this growth, Queanbeyan's economy has shifted from a largely rural base to service, retail, tourism and light manufacturing industries.

The shire aquired part of the former Yarrowlumla Shire in March 2004, increasing its territory by about 12,000 hectares. Much of this was agricultural land used for grazing, and an area of rural-residential land. As of June 2004, some 36,331 people lived in the shire. Read more >
